Where is Endless Summer Harvest located? The farm is located outside of Purcellville, Virginia in beautiful Loudoun County.
Are Endless Summer Harvest products organic? Organic certification was created by the USDA for soil based crops. Since Endless Summer Harvest is a hydroponic farm, we do not have organic certification. We feel we are cleaner than organic because we use no pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. By growing in a controlled environment, there is no sand, soil, jet fuel, or surrounding field runoff that could pollute our crop.
How do I store the lettuce once I get it home? If you have purchased a "living" lettuce, keep in the bag and refrigerate. Keep the lettuce on its roots, and do not pre-wash. Turn your lettuce head upside down and remove the leaves from the bottom. Wash only those leaves you plan to consume. Your "living" lettuce should last a minimum of 3 weeks. If you have purchased a "specialty salad blend," place in the refrigerator, do not pre-wash. When you open the bag, wash what you will enjoy, close the bag and place back in the refrigerator. Your Endless Summer Harvest is packaged in a specially designed bag which keeps moisture out and allows air in. Salad blends should last 2 weeks.
How do I store the "living" basil? Store on your kitchen counter in a small vase or glass, with water up to the roots. Ensure the root cube stays wet, but don't cover the leaves or stems with water. Snip leaves off from the bottom of the plant. Do not refrigerate, basil does not like to be cold.
Why don't you have bugs if you don't use pesticides? Endless Summer Harvest uses organic plant materials in an integrated pest management regimen.
Can I plant the "living" head in soil and will it continue to grow? We recommend that you do not plant the living heads. Your lettuce has been grown hydroponically to its generic perfection, the roots would go into crisis in soil.
What's the difference between hydroponic lettuce and lettuce grown in soil? Hydroponic lettuce is grown in a controlled environment and each head of lettuce is allowed to grow perfectly where no animals, rain, or wind can damage it. Endless Summer Harvest is able to grow 365 days of the year in a computer-controlled environment. We recycle 90% of the water, and there is no field runoff or waste.
Does hydroponic lettuce have the same nutritional content as lettuce grown in soil? Endless Summer Harvest feeds our lettuce with a micronutrient proprietary blend from American Hydroponics based on the seeds we are growing and our well water analysis to ensure that it is the most delicious and nutritious lettuce available on the market.
How long does the lettuce last? When stored properly, "living" lettuce will last a minimum of three weeks. Salad blends will last two weeks.
Can I visit your farm? We are no longer providing greenhouse tours.
